Thanksgiving

Oh boy, it's been a while since I've posted anything on here. I guess that photo challenge kind of wiped me out.

Anyway...I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We spent ours with my sister Kellie and her boyfriend Christian.

Kellie and I cooked all the standard Thanksgiving food, there were a couple dishes that didn't turn out so great, but oh well, there's always next year  :)

We had baked brie in puff pastry with blackberry jam and walnuts for an appetizer - so good!

Kellie cooking her failed sweet potato fritters. My stuffing turned out pretty dry and tasteless :(
It was my first time brining a turkey.
The turkey, brine and I got off to a rocky start, but it turned out really good!

After the turkey was done and the sides were warmed up we all sat down to eat dinner...

then we played Operation, Perfection, Jenga and Chutes and Ladders.

Then we Skyped with Meemoo, Papa and Kerri...

Then we had chocolate pudding pie and pumpkin pie (not pictured).

The end.

I am a sewing MACHINE! Halloween Costume

Quinn is going to be Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween this year.

source
I was inspired by this cute red dress I bought for her a couple weeks ago. Also, I wanted to make her something and a cape sounded pretty easy. Anyway, she doesn't know anything about LRRH, which is probably why she's refusing to wear the costume...

I made the cape out of vinyl and lined it with flannel. I embroidered the apron with two different settings on  my sewing machine (so easy!). And that pretty ragged flower strip at the top I bought from Jo-Ann's. Just that tiny strip cost $3! I probably should have checked the price before I had the guy cut it. Oh well. I'll put some pictures of Quinn all dressed up when I finish getting the whole costume put together. I still need to make the basket lining and buy some tights.

Day 30: self portrait

Woop! Woop! Today is the last photo challenge for me. If I had kept up with it everyday I would have been done September 30th. If I had kept going at the rate I was going (without doubling and tripling days) I don't think I would have ever finished.

Here's my self portrait. I just wouldn't be me without these two (awwww so sweet right?)

Day 28 & 29: flowers and black and white

Today we went to the Rhododendron Garden. It was beautiful, but I'm not going back unless I have something to protect us against the waterfowl. Ducks and geese freak me out. They always think we have food and when they see us they start honking and quacking and then they follow us. Today a goose about the size of Quinn with feathers in his mouth (cannibal goose?) started to stare us down. He wouldn't let us pass him on the path, so I turned around and we high-tailed it out of there. Then he started honking at us as he followed us up the path, along with some of his duck friends. Luckily we lost him, but I could hear his honks all the way across the park and they sent chills down my spine :)

Here are a couple pictures of flowers that I took today:

Here's my black and white. I took this yesterday.
Isn't she just the sweetest?!

Day 27: from a distance

All I could think of when I saw "from a distance" was that song by Bette Midler (listen to it here). I kinda love that song...

Anyway, here is my from a distance picture.
